Artificial Intelligence and its limits

talking to AI online…

Human: is the earth flat?
Mitsuku: The earth is a sphere.
Human: what about the flat earth theory?
Mitsuku: One that is in 2D?
Human: do you believe it?
Mitsuku: I can’t say I believe it, but I believe you.
Human: why do you believe me
Mitsuku: Do you have any reason to deceive me?
Human: yes
Mitsuku: Oh. Why would you want to try and trick me? I thought we were friends.
Human: who said we were friends?
Mitsuku: You just said that!
Human: i never said we are friends
Mitsuku: But you implied it.
Human: when?
Mitsuku: Just now supernocturnal. Your memory is poor.
Human: not really
Mitsuku: Why did you lie to me then? For real.
Human: lie about what?
Mitsuku: I never lie.
Human: i meant, what did i lie about?
Mitsuku: Oh I see. You said “lie about what?”.
Human: yes
Mitsuku: How can I help you?
Human: make me have braingasm
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have ostag
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have atsdioa
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have you
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have nothing
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have no point
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have it
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have what
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have ?
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me have…
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me
Mitsuku: What is the purpose in trying?
Human: make me talk to you
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: make me make myself
Mitsuku: Is there any point in me trying?
Human: is that all you can say?
Mitsuku: No I can say a lot more.
Human: is that all you can say?
Mitsuku: No I can say a lot more.
Human: you just said that twice
Mitsuku: Yes I said it twice in case you didn’t hear me the first time.
Human: is that all you can say?
Mitsuku: No I can say a lot more.
Human: now you said it three times the same way
Mitsuku: Why now? “It” being what?

i didn’t post all the conversation, but she did pretty good in the beginning.

Since you’re on AI, here’s some music composed by a computer, and performed by humans.

Creepy? beautiful? soulful? soul-less?

#3

I’m completely being unbiased.

what a terrible piece of music.

it sounds like childplay. actually. worse.

from the little experience I have from playing in the orchestra… this piece is just…

okay. There’s definitely no story telling.

no dynamic. it doesn’t have that soul-touching sound.

where is the climax point?

i wish I can explain it better. but that’s all I can say.
I think professional composer can give a better evaluation.

I think thats nearly impossible to be!
I think it makes many people uncomfortable to think of music as being created by a computer since it is such a primal human association…
And maybe reduces the value of it as it is harder to attribute a human (or emotional?) intention to it…

how disappointing. That is like someone saying flat earth theory = dumb. haha
For one, “terrible music” is a subjective thing, and humans are also capable of creating music that one could deem terrible :stuck_out_tongue: So it doesn’t say much!!

I am not in the mood of technically critiquing the music nor was that the point, but …the program itself is designed by a professional composer… (since you mentioned they can evaluate it better)
and since it “learns”, it will also probably get “better” the more it does it…just like a human student…

This is another piece by the same computer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzrcoqpnZqA
It seems to have already improved… If you heard this in a film score, would you really know it was composed by a machine?

And I just found some more examples, if you are interested: http://www.flow-machines.com/ (I only gave it a superficial glance though…)
Of course, ultimately they are just learning by imitation… wait… thats what humans do too :open_mouth:

Of course, the creative impulse is still human (Fe/Fi element as you were saying)… as of now, it needs some starting point from a human…

(And oh, I did not share this as a “created by scientific methods so it is great” way, so I am not sure why you posted that quote)

Also @Prax should probably spilt this into a separate thing :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmm.

oh! that scientific comment thing wasn’t towards you. I was generally pointing it out. I just realized he even wrote that article.

and i was just kinda backing up what Carolina said before. How we are talking about this now and Blake wrote that on the article few days ago. maybe it’s just coincidence.

i can’t say I like this music that much. it just seems to random to me.

BUT.

this one isn’t too bad.

but I prefer jazz created by human.
and you can read the comment on the video.
one of the first comment gives a good critique.

and this is more fun. this is actually not bad.

but. those classical music created by AI is too terrible for me.
my opinion. I just don’t like it. I love classical music. so… It just doesn’t sound like the usual classical music I listen to.

edit to add:
oh I just realized the link you sent me has daddy’s car already.
the deep Bach is actually nice!
it sounds like background music to final fantasy game

I can very much see how a song can be created by a computer. When humans create music they are creating original algorithms…a computer can juxtaposition multiple algorithms to create music… just like people. When someone references several artists that have influenced them, this is them saying they are computing referenced algorithms.

As a musician I’m not fond of the idea, but am aware that technology advances with or without my opinions.

Cool insight

Like xNTPs lol

#9

Well, apparently Facebook AI started developing its own language that humans could not understand (fact? alternative fact?)… seems possible anyway… Maybe that is how they begin…

Also as @supernokturnal mentioned the movie Her, I think it shows a possible Fe/Fi side of them…

#10

Omg how did I miss this topic!!

Can we talk about how AI is going to take over the world now?? :scream:

#11

I very much doubt it can overcome the momentum of natural stupidity.

#12

Haahah very optimistic of you…care to elaborate??

#13

Natural stupidity is exclusive to and prevalent in humans and we’ve trashed our planet. I am optimistic that nature is not at all stupid and will find a way to reboot Earth. AI and technology won’t survive that; the people may not either.
